Ingredients

12 mozzarella cheese sticks

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 tablespoon water

1 ½ cups breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

Oil for frying

Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

Freeze the Cheese: Begin by placing the mozzarella sticks in the freezer for about 30-60 minutes. This step ensures that the cheese stays intact during frying.

Prepare the Breading Station: Set up three shallow bowls. In the first bowl, place the flour. In the second bowl, whisk together the eggs and water until well combined. In the third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

Coat the Cheese: Take one frozen mozzarella stick and coat it in flour, ensuring it’s fully covered. Then, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat this process for all cheese sticks.

Second Coating (Optional): For an extra crispy texture, dip each coated cheese stick back into the egg and then into the breadcrumbs again.

Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or fryer, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping in a small piece of bread; it should sizzle and brown quickly.

Fry the Mozzarella Sticks: Carefully lower a few battered cheese sticks into the hot oil (do not overcrowd the pan). Fry for about 1-2 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally with tongs for even cooking.

Drain: Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried mozzarella sticks from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Serve: Serve the mozzarella sticks warm with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.

                  Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes | Servings: 4 (3 sticks each)

                    - Presentation Tips: Arrange the mozzarella sticks in a fan shape on a platter, garnished with fresh basil leaves and a small bowl of marinara sauce in the center for an inviting presentation.
