Croissants are more than just a convenient sandwich vessel; they are the very foundation of this recipe. Originating from Austria and popularized in France, croissants are a type of pastry known for their flaky, layered texture and rich, buttery flavor. The process of making croissants involves a technique called lamination, where layers of dough and butter are rolled and folded to create the pastry's signature flakiness.

Ingredients

2 large buttery croissants

6 oz thinly sliced turkey breast

4 slices of sharp cheddar cheese

4 slices of crispy cooked bacon

1 avocado, sliced

2 tablespoons mayonnaise

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh arugula (optional for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Slice each croissant in half horizontally, creating a top and bottom section.

In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard together until well combined.

Spread half of the mayo mixture on the bottom halves of the croissants, and season with a pinch of salt and pepper.

Layer each croissant bottom with slices of turkey breast, followed by two slices of cheddar cheese and two slices of crispy bacon.

Add the sliced avocado on top of the bacon, then drizzle with extra salt and pepper if desired.

Place the top halves of the croissants on the assembled bottoms.

Place the filled croissants on a baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the croissants are warmed through.

Remove from the oven, and if desired, garnish with fresh arugula for a pop of color and flavor.

Serve warm and enjoy your delicious Turkey Cheddar Bacon Croissant!
