Ingredients

2 sirloin steaks (about 1 inch thick)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Steaks: Pat the sirloin steaks dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper.

Sear the Steaks: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the steaks and sear them for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they develop a nice brown crust. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set them aside on a plate.

Sauté Onions and Garlic: In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook them for about 5 minutes until they become translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.

Make the Sauce: Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and red pepper flakes to the skillet. Stir well to combine everything. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Cook the Steaks in Sauce: Reduce the heat to medium-low and return the steaks to the skillet, nestling them in the sauce. Spoon some sauce over the steaks. Cover the skillet and let everything cook together for about 8-10 minutes, allowing the steaks to absorb the flavors of the sauce while cooking to your desired doneness.

Serve: Once the steaks are done, remove them from the skillet and slice them against the grain. Plate the slices and spoon the pizzaiola sauce generously over the top. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
