Ingredients
  

1 pound ground beef or turkey

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

1 cup sour cream

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided

1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots

salt and pepper to taste

Optional: 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)

Optional: chopped green onions for garnish

Preheat Your Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).

    Cook the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.

      Add Aromatics: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.

        Combine the Sauce: Stir in the cream of mushroom soup and sour cream. If using, add the frozen mixed vegetables. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix thoroughly and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.

          Layer the Casserole: In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, evenly spread the beef mixture. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese over the meat.

            Add Tater Tots: Arrange the frozen tater tots on top of the cheese in a single layer.

              Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
