Ingredients
  

For the Salisbury Steak:

1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)

1/4 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)

1/4 cup onion, finely chopped

1 large egg

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 tbsp olive oil for cooking

For the Mushroom Gravy:

1 cup mushrooms, sliced (button or cremini work well)

1/2 cup onion, finely chopped

2 cups beef broth

2 tbsp all-purpose flour

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 tsp dried thyme

1 tsp garlic powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions
 

Prepare the Salisbury Steaks:

    - In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined without overworking the meat.

      - Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into oval patties.

        Cook the Steaks:

          - Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Once done, transfer them to a platter and cover them with foil to keep warm.

            Make the Mushroom Gravy:

              - In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and chopped onion. Sauté until the mushrooms release their moisture and the onions are translucent, about 5-6 minutes.

                - Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and stir well to combine, cooking for another minute. Gradually add the beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Stir in the soy sauce, thyme, garlic powder, and season with salt and pepper.

                  - Bring the gravy to a simmer and let it cook for 3-4 minutes until it thickens slightly.

                    Serve:

                      - Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet with the gravy. Spoon the gravy over the patties and simmer for an additional minute to heat through.

                        - Serve hot with mashed potatoes or over rice, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
