Ingredients

12 oz rigatoni pasta

1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

2 tbsp tomato paste

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tbsp olive oil

1 cup beef broth (or red wine for a deeper flavor)

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the rigatoni according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

    Prepare the Meat Sauce:

      - In a large skillet or pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.

        - Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

          - Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground meat. Cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

            Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings:

              - Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth (or red wine), oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Simmer the Sauce: Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer uncovered for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Taste and adjust the seasonings if necessary.

Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the cooked rigatoni to the sauce and toss to combine, ensuring every piece of pasta is coated with the delicious meat sauce. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and evenly distributed.

Serve: Divide the rigatoni among bowls. Top with additional Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves for garnish. Enjoy your hearty and satisfying dish!
