4 slices of sourdough bread

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup pepperoni slices

1/2 cup marinara sauce (plus more for dipping)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil.

    While the skillet heats, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.

      On the non-sauce side of two slices, distribute half of the mozzarella cheese evenly.

        Add an even layer of pepperoni slices on top of the cheese, followed by the remaining mozzarella cheese.

          Place the other two slices of bread on top, sauce side down, to create a sandwich.

            Carefully place the sandwiches in the skillet. Sprinkle the garlic powder and Italian seasoning over the top of each sandwich.

              Cook for 3-4 minutes on one side or until golden brown, then flip carefully and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes until both sides are crispy and the cheese has melted.

                Once cooked, remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let cool for a minute. Cut them in half diagonally.

                  Serve hot with additional marinara sauce on the side for dipping. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.
