The Big Mac, a quintessential symbol of American fast food, was first introduced by McDonald's in 1968. Created by Jim Delligatti, a franchise owner in Pennsylvania, the Big Mac was designed to provide customers with a hearty meal option, combining two beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions all sandwiched between a three-part sesame seed bun. Over the years, the Big Mac has transcended its humble beginnings to become an iconic emblem of fast food culture, celebrated for its unique flavor profile and satisfying texture.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (80/20)

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 tablespoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

8 mini hamburger buns

4 slices of American cheese, cut in half

1/2 cup lettuce, finely shredded

1/4 cup pickles, chopped

1/3 cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon mustard

1 tablespoon white vinegar

1 tablespoon finely diced red onion

Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Sauce: In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, white vinegar, and diced red onion to create a special sauce. Set aside.

Season the Beef: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently to avoid overworking the meat.

Form the Patties: Divide the beef mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a mini patty, about 2 inches in diameter.

Cook the Patties: Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the mini patties for about 3-4 minutes on one side. Flip the patties, place half a slice of American cheese on each, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the cheese melts and the patties are cooked to your desired doneness.

Toast the Buns: While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the mini hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

Assemble the Burgers: Spread a teaspoon of the special sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with shredded lettuce, a mini cheeseburger patty, chopped pickles, and another teaspoon of sauce. Add the top bun, sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired, and repeat for the remaining burgers.

Serve: Arrange the mini Big Mac cheeseburgers on a platter and serve with extra special sauce on the side for dipping!

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes | Servings: 8 mini burgers
