Ingredients

1 large green cabbage

1 pound ground beef (or meat alternative)

1/2 cup cooked rice

1/2 cup finely chopped onion

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped

1 egg

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups marinara sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Optional: red pepper flakes for a spicy kick

Instructions

Prepare the Cabbage:

    - Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and gently submerge the whole cabbage into the boiling water for about 5 minutes to soften the leaves. Remove from water and set aside to cool.

      Make the Meatball Mixture:

        - In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.

          Form the Meatballs:

            - Divide the meat mixture into 12-15 equal portions and roll them into meatballs.

              Stuff the Cabbage:

                - Carefully peel off about 12-15 large cabbage leaves. Take one leaf, place a meatball in the center, and fold the sides over the meatball. Secure with a toothpick if needed. Repeat with remaining leaves and meatballs.

                  Prepare for Baking:

                    - Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce evenly on the bottom of a large baking dish.

                      Arrange the Cabbage Rolls:

                        - Nestle the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down into the baking dish. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the top, ensuring all cabbage rolls are covered.

                          Add the Cheese:

                            - Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the cabbage rolls.

                              Bake:

                                - Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.

                                  Serve:

                                    - Let the dish cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with extra parsley and, if desired, a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for added heat.
