Ingredients

1 tablespoon high-quality matcha green tea powder

2 teaspoons hot water (not boiling, around 175°F or 80°C)

1 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)

1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)

A pinch of sea salt (optional)

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Ice cubes (for iced matcha option)

Instructions

Sift the Matcha: Place the matcha green tea powder into a fine sifter or a small bowl to remove any lumps. Use a small whisk to tap gently to sift it smoothly into the bowl.

Add Water: Pour 2 teaspoons of hot water into the bowl with sifted matcha powder. The water should be hot but not boiling to preserve the delicate nutrients.

Whisk: Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small electric frother, whisk the matcha and water in a rapid motion in a zig-zag or circular pattern until the mixture is frothy and all the matcha is dissolved without any lumps. This should take about 30 seconds.

Heat the Milk: In a small saucepan, gently heat the almond milk over a low flame. If you prefer iced matcha, skip this step.

Combine: Once the milk is warmed (or if using iced, pour it cold over ice cubes in a glass), add the whisked matcha. Stir gently to combine.

Sweeten: Mix in the honey or maple syrup, a pinch of sea salt (if using), and vanilla extract (optional), adjusting sweetness to your preference.

Serve & Enjoy: Pour into a cup for a warm drink or over ice for a refreshing iced version. Garnish with a sprinkle of matcha on top or enjoy as is.
