A matcha cappuccino is a unique twist on the classic drink. It uses matcha green tea instead of espresso. This change gives it a different taste and color. Matcha brings a rich green hue and an earthy flavor. In contrast, a regular cappuccino has a bold coffee taste and dark brown color.

Ingredients

1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder

1 tablespoon hot water (not boiling)

1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)

1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Cocoa powder or cinnamon for dusting on top

Instructions

In a small bowl, whisk the matcha green tea powder with hot water using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a frother until smooth and frothy. Make sure there are no lumps.

In a separate small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until warm, but do not let it boil. If you want a frothed texture, use a handheld milk frother or pour the milk into a jar, covering it with a lid, and shake vigorously until frothy.

If using honey or maple syrup, stir it into the warm milk along with the vanilla extract until fully dissolved.

Pour the prepared matcha into a serving cup, then carefully pour in the frothed milk on top.

For a finishing touch, dust the top with a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon for added flavor and aesthetics.

Serve immediately, and enjoy your creamy, guilt-free Matcha Cappuccino!
