Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (80/20)

1 small onion, finely chopped (for the patties)

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1 large egg

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)

2 large onions, sliced (for the gravy)

2 cups beef broth

1 tablespoon soy sauce

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, finely chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into oval patties.

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Carefully add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until browned and cooked through. Once done, remove the patties from the skillet and set aside, keeping them warm.

In the same skillet, add sliced onions and sauté over medium heat until they become soft and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.

Once the onions are caramelized, sprinkle the flour over them, and stir well to combine. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.

Gradually add the beef broth and soy sauce, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes. Add thyme and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Return the cooked hamburger patties to the skillet, spoon some gravy over them, and let everything simmer together for about 2-3 minutes.

Serve the hamburger steak on plates drizzled with the rich onion gravy and garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
