Ingredients

4 cups potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

2 cups cooked ham, diced

1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

1 cup sour cream

1 cup milk

1 onion, finely chopped

1 teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup breadcrumbs

2 tablespoons butter, melted

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sour cream, milk, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well mixed.

Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Spread half of the diced ham evenly over the potato layer.

Pour half of the sour cream mixture over the potatoes and ham, then sprinkle half of the shredded cheese on top.

Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, ham, sour cream mixture, and cheese.

In a small skillet, sauté the chopped onion in a bit of butter until translucent, about 5 minutes. Evenly distribute the sautéed onions on top of the casserole.

In a separate bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the melted butter, then sprinkle this mixture over the top of the casserole for a crunchy topping.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.

Allow the casserole to cool for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

                        Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 6

                          - Presentation Tips: Serve the casserole warm in the baking dish, using a slotted spoon to keep the layers intact. Finish with a sprinkle of extra shredded cheese and parsley for color.
