Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80% lean)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

4 slices of cheddar cheese

4 slices of sourdough bread

4 tablespoons butter

1 avocado, sliced

1 cup arugula

1 tomato, sliced

Optional: hot sauce for serving

Instructions

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently to combine.

Form the mixture into 4 equal patties, making a small indentation in the center of each patty (this helps them cook evenly).

Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side until browned.

Flip the patties and place a slice of cheddar cheese on each. Grill for another 4-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burgers are cooked to your desired doneness.

Meanwhile, in a separate skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Once melted, place a slice of sourdough bread in the skillet and cook until golden brown. Repeat with the other slices of bread.

Assemble the burgers: on the bottom slice of grilled sourdough, layer the cheesy patty, avocado slices, arugula, and tomato. Add a few dashes of hot sauce if desired.

Top with another piece of grilled sourdough bread, pressing down lightly.

For an extra touch, you can grill the whole burger for an additional minute to make it extra crispy. Cut in half to serve.

                    - Presentation Tips: Serve on a wooden board, cut in half with the melted cheese oozing out, and garnish with a sprig of arugula on the side.
