Ingredients

4 fish fillets (such as cod, halibut, or tilapia)

3 tablespoons olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 small red onion, chopped

1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes

1/2 cup pitted kalamata olives, sliced

2 tablespoons capers, drained and rinsed

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

1 cup cooked spaghetti or linguine (optional)

Instructions

Prep the Fish: Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper. Set aside.

Make the Sauce: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped red onion. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Add Tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir. Add the sliced olives, capers, red pepper flakes, and oregano. Bring to a gentle simmer and let the sauce cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cook the Fish: Carefully place the seasoned fish fillets in the simmering sauce, spooning some sauce over the top. Cover the skillet and let the fish cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.

Serve: If using, place a serving of spaghetti or linguine on each plate. Carefully place a fish fillet on top and ladle the Puttanesca sauce over. Garnish with fresh basil leaves for a burst of flavor and color.
