Ingredients

9 lasagna noodles

1 lb ground beef or turkey

1 onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

24 oz marinara sauce

15 oz ricotta cheese

1 egg

3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley or basil, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the Noodles: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Meat Sauce: In a skillet over medium heat, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent. Add the ground beef or turkey, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat.

Add Sauce & Seasoning: Stir in the marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper to the meat mixture. Simmer for about 5-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Remove from heat.

Mix Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, the egg, and half of the grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well and set aside.

Assemble the Lasagna: In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce. Place three noodles on top, then spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles. Next, sprinkle a third of the mozzarella cheese over the ricotta. Repeat the layers (sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella). Finish with the remaining meat sauce and top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Bake: Cover the dish with foil (to prevent sticking, spray the foil with cooking spray). Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Cool and Serve: Let the lasagna sit for about 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley or basil if desired.
