Ingredients

3 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and cut into fries

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crispiness)

2 large eggs

1 tablespoon milk

Cooking spray or olive oil spray

Optional: caramel sauce for dipping

Instructions

Preparation: Start by preheating your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). While it heats up, prepare your apple fries. Peel the apples and cut them into sticks about 1/4 inch thick.

Breading Station: Set up three bowls for breading. In the first bowl, combine the flour with the ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and half of the sugar (2 tablespoons). In the second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In the third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the remaining sugar and a pinch of salt.

Coating the Apple Fries: Take each apple fry and dip it into the flour mixture, making sure to coat it thoroughly, then shake off any excess flour. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat the fry with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to ensure it sticks. Repeat this process for all the apple fries.

Air Frying: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the apple fries in a single layer, making sure they are not overcrowded (you may need to do this in batches). Spray the tops of the fries with a little olive oil spray to help them crisp up.

Cook: Air fry the apple fries for about 10-12 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time until they are golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them towards the end to prevent overcooking.

Serve: Once done, remove the apple fries from the air fryer and let them cool slightly. Serve warm with caramel sauce for dipping, if desired.
