- Apples: Use two large apples. I like Granny Smith for their tartness. They hold up well during baking and balance the sweetness of the dish. Honeycrisp apples also work great. They offer a nice crunch and sweet flavor.

Ingredients

2 large apples, peeled, cored, and cut into wedges

1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup water

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, melted

Optional: Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Take each crescent roll triangle and place an apple wedge at the wide end of the triangle. Roll the dough around the apple, tucking it in as you go to fully enclose it. Pinch the edges to seal. Place the apple dumpling seam-side down in the greased baking dish.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, water, and cinnamon, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Bring to a gentle boil, then remove from the heat and stir in the melted butter until well combined.

Pour the warm syrup mixture evenly over the dumplings in the baking dish, ensuring they are well coated.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the sauce is bubbling.

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. If desired, serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top to complement the sweetness of the dumplings.
