Ingredients

1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1 large onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained

1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

½ cup beef broth

2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing for about 2-3 minutes until they are fragrant and the onion is translucent.

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook thoroughly, breaking it up with a spatula until no pink remains. Drain any excess fat from the pan.

Stir in the diced tomatoes (with their juices), cooked rice, oregano, paprika, salt, and black pepper, mixing well. Let it simmer for 5 minutes to combine the flavors.

In a large casserole dish, layer half of the chopped cabbage evenly on the bottom. Pour half of the beef mixture over the cabbage, then sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese.

Repeat the layering process with the remaining cabbage, beef mixture, and top with the remaining cheese.

Pour the beef broth evenly over the top of the casserole. This will help steam the cabbage while cooking and keep everything moist.

Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

After 45 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown.

Once done, remove from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
