Ingredients

1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 ¾ cups granulated sugar

¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

½ cup vegetable oil

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup boiling water

Chocolate frosting (homemade or store-bought)

Optional: Chocolate shavings and fresh berries for garnish

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until the batter is smooth.

Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this helps create a moist cake.

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.

Once cool, frost the tops of one cake layer generously with chocolate frosting, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the entire cake.

For an added touch, garnish with chocolate shavings and fresh berries if desired.

                    Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes | Servings: 12

                      - Presentation Tips: Serve on a decorative cake stand and slice with a sharp knife for clean edges. Add additional berries on the plate for a pop of color.
