Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup cooked Italian sausage, crumbled

3/4 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder.

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled sausage, mixing until evenly distributed.

Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Gently fold everything together with a spatula or your hands, being careful not to overmix. The dough should be slightly sticky.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and pat it into a rectangle about 1 inch thick.

Use a biscuit cutter or a floured glass to cut out biscuits, re-rolling any scraps as necessary. Place the biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet.

Optionally, sprinkle the tops with some extra cheddar cheese and chopped chives for added flavor and garnish.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.

Allow the biscuits to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Prep Time: 15 mins | Total Time: 30 mins | Servings: 12 biscuits
