The Caprese concept originates from the traditional Italian Caprese salad, which epitomizes the essence of simplicity and freshness. Named after the island of Capri, this salad is made with just three main ingredients: ripe tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and aromatic basil. The beauty of the Caprese salad lies in its vibrant colors—red, white, and green—which symbolize the colors of the Italian flag. Traditionally dressed with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt, the Caprese salad showcases the quality and flavor of its ingredients, making it a beloved staple in Italian cuisine.

Ingredients

1 large rustic loaf (such as ciabatta or sourdough)

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 cups fresh mozzarella cheese, shredded

1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

2 tablespoons balsamic glaze (for drizzling)

Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Make the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, oregano, red pepper flakes, and salt until well combined.

Slice the Bread: Cut the rustic loaf in half lengthwise, creating two long pieces of bread.

Spread the Garlic Butter: Generously spread the garlic butter mixture on the cut sides of the bread.

Add the Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over both halves of the bread.

Top with Tomatoes and Basil: Distribute the halved cherry tomatoes and chopped basil over the cheese on each half.

Bake the Bread: Place the prepared bread on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges of the bread are golden.

Finish with Balsamic Glaze: Once out of the oven, drizzle with balsamic glaze and add freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Serve: Allow to cool for a minute, then slice into pieces. Serve warm as an appetizer or snack.
