2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for a little kick)

½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

¾ cup milk

2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped (plus more for garnish)

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

¼ teaspoon garlic powder (for the topping)

Instructions
 

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

    In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.

      Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

        Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and chopped chives.

          Pour in the milk gradually, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix—the dough should be slightly sticky.

            Using a large spoon or ice cream scoop, drop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each biscuit.

              Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.

                While the biscuits are baking, prepare the topping by melting 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter and mixing in ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder.

                  Once the biscuits are done, brush the melted garlic butter on top and sprinkle with additional chopped chives and cheese if desired.
