Ingredients

1 ½ cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon kosher salt

½ cup unsalted butter, melted (divided)

1/4 cup baking soda

1 large egg, beaten

Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, granulated sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

In a separate bowl, mix the flour and kosher salt. Gradually add this mixture to the yeast mixture, stirring until a dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and the baking soda to a boil.

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 1 inch thick, then cut each rope into 1-inch pieces.

Carefully drop the pretzel bites into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on the prepared baking sheets.

Brush the top of each pretzel bite with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

Bake the pretzel bites in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.

While they bake, prepare the garlic herb butter by combining the remaining melted butter, minced garlic, and herbs in a bowl.

Remove the pretzel bites from the oven and immediately brush them with the garlic herb butter for an extra layer of flavor.

Serve warm with mustard or cheese dip for a perfect snack!
