Ingredients

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup granulated sugar

2 ½ teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup buttermilk

1 large egg

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

¾ cup packed brown sugar

Oil for frying

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well blended.

In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for 1-2 minutes until smooth. Shape it into a rectangle about ½-inch thick.

In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the dough rectangle.

Roll the dough tightly from one long side to the other to form a log. Cut the roll into 1-inch thick slices.

Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Carefully place a few doughnut slices in the hot oil at a time, frying for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

While still warm, you can dip the doughnuts in a mixture of cinnamon-sugar or drizzle with a glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.

Prep Time: 25 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 12 doughnuts

                      - Presentation Tips: Arrange the doughnuts on a platter with a sprinkle of powdered sugar and a dusting of cinnamon on top. Garnish with fresh mint leaves for a pop of color. Enjoy with a side of coffee or milk!
