Ingredients

1 cup ground beef or turkey

1 small onion, diced

1 clove garlic, minced

1 cup ketchup

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon chili powder

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 batch of buttery biscuit dough (see below)

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

¾ cup milk

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef (or turkey), diced onion, and minced garlic. Sauté until the meat is browned and the onion is translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Make the Sloppy Joe sauce: Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

Prepare the biscuit dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the melted butter and milk, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix; it’s okay if there are lumps.

Assemble the bake: In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, pour the Sloppy Joe mixture evenly over the bottom. Spoon dollops of biscuit dough on top of the meat mixture, ensuring it’s evenly distributed.

Add cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the biscuit dough.

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.

Serve: Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Use a spatula to scoop portions onto plates.

                  Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 45 minutes | Servings: 6
