A biscuits and gravy casserole recipe shines with some key ingredients. First, you need biscuits. I recommend using flaky buttermilk biscuit dough. These biscuits bake up light and fluffy. They soak up the gravy well and add great texture.

Ingredients

1 can of flaky buttermilk biscuit dough

1 pound breakfast sausage (mild or spicy)

¼ cup all-purpose flour

2 cups milk (whole or 2%)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon salt (more to taste)

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

2 large eggs

Chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Use a spoon to crumble the sausage as it cooks.

Once the sausage is cooked, sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to combine. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the flour is lightly toasted.

Gradually pour in the milk while continuously stirring to create a creamy gravy. Add garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the gravy thickens, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and set aside.

Open the biscuit dough and cut each biscuit into quarters. Spread the biscuit pieces evenly in the prepared baking dish.

Pour the sausage gravy evenly over the biscuit pieces, making sure everything is well-coated.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and pour them over the sausage and biscuit mixture.

Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top of the casserole. If you like heat, sprinkle with red pepper flakes as well.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden and cooked through, and the top is bubbly.

Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley.

                      Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 45 minutes | Servings: 6-8

                        - Presentation Tips: Serve slices of the casserole warm on a plate, garnished with additional fresh parsley and a sprinkle of black pepper for an inviting touch. Pair with fresh fruit or a side salad for a complete meal!
