Ingredients

1 lb breakfast sausage (bulk or links, casings removed)

6 large eggs

2 cups milk

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon onion powder

6 slices of bread (cubed, white or whole wheat)

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup diced bell peppers (optional)

1 cup diced onion (optional)

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.

Layer the cubed bread evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Spread the cooked sausage over the bread cubes, followed by the diced bell peppers and onions if using.

Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layers in the baking dish, ensuring all the bread is covered.

Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the center is set.

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Cut into squares and serve warm. Enjoy your delicious Amish Breakfast Casserole!
